The Lodger : A Story of London Fog, with premiere of new orchestral score by Neil Brand

  • Abbeydale Picture House 387 Abbeydale Road Sheffield S7 1FS UK (map)

A serial killer is on the loose in London and the city is on high alert. Meanwhile, the mysterious new lodger at the home of Mr and Mrs Bunting starts to attract suspicion. Could he be the man police are hunting for? The second Yorkshire Silent Film Festival gets off to a flying start at Sheffield's finest old cinema, the beautiful Abbeydale Picture House. To make the evening really special, we're thrilled to announce that the film will be accompanied by the world premiere performance of Neil Brand's new score, performed live by Orchestra of St Paul's.

Come to the film with an open mind, and be amazed by all the early-cinema roughness that Hitchcock would spend his career successfully smoothing away...electrifying...simply extraordinary
— Andrew Pulver, The Guardian

Tickets £17.50

The festival's opening weekend at the Abbeydale Picture House continues on Saturday 6 May with seven films including another chance to see Ivor Novello, this time in the rarely-screened and deeply odd fantasy-science-fiction-romance Man Without Desire, the Soviet comedy Girl With a Hat Box, Buster Keaton in The Cameraman and Greta Garbo in the lavish Hollywood drama Flesh and the Devil
